The Wordy Shipmates The Wordy Shipmates
by Vowell, Sarah
As always, Vowell is darkly hilarious and freshly informative. She pokes fun at the buckle-shoed Puritans who first settled here, but she also tells a story of how their quirks, foibles, and love of words formed our country's personality. Her distinct and sharply witty voice makes this book an edifying delight.--Laura Delaney, The Rediscovered Bookshop (Boise, ID)

Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life
by Kingsolver, Barbara, Kingsolver, Camille
“Tracing the food year, Kingsolver—with her characteristic candor, poetry, and grace—brings us meditations on asparagus, turkeys, tomatoes, and mulch as she and her family try to eat locally as much as they can. This is a distinct hybrid of The Omnivore’s Dilemma, Under the Tuscan Sun, and Walden.” —Matt Plies, Annie Bloom’s Books, Portland, OR

Title of Event: Counting the Days Recovery Through the Romance Side of the Brain By Tyler Stanley
When: Wednesday, January 7, 2009 12:30 PM
Location: Alexander Book Co.
Description: "I feel like I've been on an hour long movie where I've laughed till my sides hurt and cried till I couldn't see. I am now exhausted and must sleep. Where you fake it, it shows. Where you struggle, it's obvious. Where your heart and love and deepest feelings flow, it is a wonder."
